Loving Jesus More Than Our Sin
There comes a point in our spiritual journey when we must ask ourselves a hard but necessary question: Do we truly love Jesus more than our sin?
For many of us, sin is familiar. It provides temporary comfort, a false sense of control, or even a moment of pleasure. But the deeper we walk with Christ, the more we realize that sin never truly satisfies, it only separates us from the One who does.
Luke 10:27 reminds us, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind.” This verse challenges us to love God with everything we are… not just in words, but in action, in desire, and in devotion. Yet, if we’re honest, we often struggle to let go of the things that pull us away from Him.
So, how do we cultivate a love for Christ that surpasses our desire for sin?
Spend intentional time with Him. The more we pray, worship, and immerse ourselves in His Word, the stronger our relationship with Him becomes.
See sin for what it is. It may offer momentary satisfaction, but it always leads to emptiness. Jesus offers something better, true, lasting fulfillment.
Surrender daily. Choosing Jesus over sin isn’t a one-time decision; it’s a daily act of trust and obedience.
Ask for transformation. On our own, we can’t always change our desires, but God can. We must pray for Him to renew our hearts and shift our affections toward Him.
Remember the cross. When we reflect on the depth of Christ’s love and sacrifice, the appeal of sin begins to fade.
This week, let’s reflect on these questions:
Am I pursuing Christ with my whole heart, or am I still holding onto things that separate me from Him?
Do I truly believe that Jesus is better than anything this world offers?
Am I willing to surrender my struggles to Him and trust that His way is best?
The more we draw near to Jesus, the more we will desire Him over everything else. Let’s commit to loving Him more than our sin and walking in the freedom He has given us.
In His grace,
Jeff

Loving Jesus More Than Our Sin
Heavenly Father,
I come before You with an open heart, knowing that I cannot hide anything from You. You see my struggles, my desires, and the things I still hold onto that pull me away from You. Lord, I confess that there are times when I have chosen my own way instead of Yours, when I have allowed sin to take priority over my love for You.
But today, I surrender.
Father, help me to love You more than my sin… more than my comfort, more than my own understanding, more than the things that temporarily satisfy but never fulfill. Give me a hunger for Your presence, a desire for Your Word, and a heart that longs for what is holy.
I ask for Your strength because I know I cannot do this on my own. Change my heart, Lord. Transform my desires. Remove anything in my life that separates me from You, and replace it with a deeper love and trust in You.
When I am tempted, remind me of the truth, that nothing the world offers compares to the peace and joy found in You. When I struggle, help me to turn to You instead of my old ways. When I fall short, let me run to Your grace, not my guilt.
Jesus, You gave everything for me. You held nothing back on the cross. Let my love for You reflect that same surrender… holding nothing back, giving You my whole heart, my whole life, and my whole devotion.
I trust that You are enough. I believe that Your love satisfies. And today, I choose You over everything else.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
